The standard consensus amongst most small Twitch streamers is to ignore your viewer count. The fact that most new streamers will often have 0 or only a few viewers is seen as a given fact and with so many different streamers playing hundreds of popular games, its probably a view that has arisen from practicality.
I disagree.
I think its a useful thing to be aware that someone has dropped by your stream. I think it can help you keep your focus on being an entertainer in mind. Whozon can help you with that awareness. I don’t suggest you use it to call out new arrivals, let them lurk in peace and only respond if they post in chat, but let it help keep you aware that you do have an audience out there and first impressions are massively important.
Seeing some green names under Viewers is a subtle reminder to turn up your performance, to keep your focus on entertainment and to be aware that someone may interact in chat and you should keep aware of it.
Learning to stream effectively is not an easy task for most of us. I have found Whozon to be a useful tool personally during its development because it kept me aware of new arrivals to the channel and thus reminded me I need to pay attention to being entertaining and lively rather than just focused on my game. I hope you will give it a try and see if it helps you.
Currently its primarily a reporting tool, it polls Twitch for your stream information and sorts viewers into the three categories of Viewers, Moderators, and Bots. Viewers are those who remain on the viewer list because they are not identified as either Moderators on your channel, or Bots listed in the Whozon database of known bot accounts.
However, Whozon also provides you with ways to change your channel settings: At the top are 4 buttons that permit you to toggle Emote Only, Followers Only, and Subscribers Only chat modes, as well as enable Slow Mode. These allow you to react to changes in your chat or give you and your moderators time to take action as required.
To the right of each viewer listing we now have buttons that enable you to mark or unmark a viewer as a Channel VIP, add or remove Moderator privilege’s or just ban the viewer – all with just a push of the appropriate button. These buttons should only display under the required circumstances – you cannot be a VIP if you are a Moderator and VIP status must first be removed in order to promote a viewer to Moderator, so the buttons will display only where applicable. Likewise you cannot ban a moderator without removing their moderator status etc. Likewise you might choose to grant Moderator privileges to bots like StreamElements or Nightbot.
The Whozon app comes with a few official color schemes and you can select one from the pulldown menu accessed by hitting the Settings button. However you can now create your own color scheme using the new Scheme Editor. You can define and save up to 10 personal color schemes
New bots are created all the time, so the Check Bot and Add Bot buttons have been added to let you check whether or not some viewers might be a bot and not a person. If you submit a viewer name as a bot it goes into our database as a potential bot and when confirmed by me gets added to the database. Its not a perfect solution and its not automated. When and if we acquire a significant number of Whozon users I can create a system that will automatically check for new bots and add them to the database.
