A Note on Security Warnings During Install

Whozon Desktop is built and maintained by a single independent developer, not a company. Both Apple and Microsoft require developers to pay for and register official certificates before an operating system will automatically trust a new app on first install. Those certificates cost money and take time to obtain, so until that registration is complete, both macOS and Windows will show a security warning the first time you install Whozon Desktop. This is expected for a new, small, independently made app — it is not a sign of a problem with the software — and it will go away once registration is finished.

macOS: "is damaged and should be moved to the Trash"

This message is Apple's Gatekeeper protection, triggered because the app isn't yet notarized by Apple (a paid process not yet completed). To open it anyway:

1. Move Whozon Desktop to your Applications folder if you haven't already.
2. Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal).
3. Run: xattr -cr "/Applications/Whozon Desktop.app"
4. Open Whozon Desktop normally from Applications.

Windows: "Windows protected your PC"

This SmartScreen warning appears because the app isn't yet signed with a paid Windows code-signing certificate. To continue:

1. Click "More info" on the warning screen.
2. Click "Run anyway".

This is a standard Windows warning for any new, unsigned app from a small developer, and does not indicate a problem with the software.
